Why Purpose-Led Travel Is on the Rise

By 30 September 2026No Comments

In an era where travellers are increasingly seeking deeper, more meaningful experiences, purpose-led travel is gaining momentum as a powerful way to explore the world. Whether through study tours, leadership programs or corporate incentive travel, organisations are increasingly looking beyond traditional sightseeing and creating journeys that deliver both personal enrichment and strategic value.

Study tours are a prime example. Designed around a specific area of interest, they allow participants to gain unique insights, engage with experts and immerse themselves in the culture and context that shapes their chosen field. Whether focused on art, architecture, agriculture, education, sustainability or business innovation, study tours create opportunities to learn directly from people, places and communities.
A recent art-focused journey through Seoul, South Korea, highlighted exactly why this style of travel is resonating with so many people. Designed in collaboration with the tour leader and supported by Totem Connections, the program combined professional learning with authentic cultural discovery, allowing participants to explore leading galleries, private collections, artist studios and major international art events while also experiencing Korea’s rich cultural heritage. Visits to historic palaces, Buddhist temples, traditional neighbourhoods and local restaurants provided valuable context and connection to the destination, creating an experience that was both educational and personally enriching.
This trend is not limited to study tours. Within the corporate world, many organisations are rethinking how they approach incentive and reward travel programs. While recognising and rewarding high-performing employees remains an important objective, companies are increasingly seeking experiences that align with broader business goals and organisational values. Rather than simply “showing people a good time”, there is growing interest in thoughtfully curated itineraries that inspire, educate, build connections and create lasting impact.
The most successful programs, whether they are study tours or corporate incentives, strike a balance between learning, cultural immersion, networking and memorable experiences. They provide participants with opportunities to gain new perspectives, strengthen relationships and return home with more than just great memories.
The feedback from the Korea program reflected this perfectly. Participants were overwhelmingly positive about the experience, with strong interest in future art-focused journeys and all travellers expressing enthusiasm for travelling together again. The combination of expert-led insights, behind-the-scenes access and meaningful cultural experiences created a journey that resonated well beyond the destination itself.
As travellers and organisations continue to seek experiences with greater purpose and impact, programs that combine education, inspiration and cultural immersion are likely to become even more popular. More than simply a trip, they become shared experiences that foster learning, connection and a deeper understanding of the world around us.
